Untiedt was born and raised in rural Colorado and maintains a studio in Denver. Traveling and painting worldwide, he has become known as a world painter who creates with a Westerner's eye. Through the color, brush strokes, and the symbolic subject matter of his paintings, he attempts to examine the human predicament as reflected with deep connections to the landscape. Untiedt has participated in numerous shows, including the Colorado Governor's Invitational, Representing the West, Art of the American West, and the Masters of Montana. He received the 2005 Ralph "Tuffy" Berg Award at the CM Russell Auction of Original Western Art. He is currently working on an extensive project, "Roundance, from Beara to Butte," painting the connections between the Beara peninsula in southwestern Ireland and the mining community.

Currently he is working on the River of Lost Souls in Purgatory, in Spanish it is known as “El Rio De Las Animas Perdidas en Purgatorio”. Legend has that an unblessed Spanish army was lost in the canyons of this river. He shares his thoughts and feelings for the Purgatory River from the headwaters near Stonewall to its mouth on the Arkansas at Las Animas, Colorado. The Show will open on September 20, 2007, at the Sangre de Cristo Art Center in Pueblo, Colorado. Details at www.michaelomeuntiedt.com
