Creative Options, in cooperation with the national “Reading is Fundamental” (RIF) program, is helping spark interest in reading among young children and families. The aim of the program is to help motivate children to embrace reading as a central part of their lives as well as educate parents about the importance of literacy in their homes.
CP’s Creative Options centers are holding several themed events this school year that will help promote reading through a number of fun and enriching activities and will include guest volunteers that will talk to kids about the importance and joy of reading. At the conclusion of each event, children get to select a new book of their choosing to keep for themselves at no cost to their families.
At a recent event, a number of Denver’s Firefighters visited Creative Option’s Hudson location to read to the children and give the kids a chance to climb aboard a real fire truck. Another event featured Karen Middleton with the Colorado State Board of Education who engaged the kids in a discussion about different types of stories and all of the things we can learn from reading. Both events were a huge success and enjoyed by all who attended.
